Advanced Path Planning and Machine Control Paves the Way to Autonomous Heavy Machines [A-1591] Wed., Nov. 9, 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM PST 
This presentation provides an overview of our path planning module and the controls system module, part of our autonomous technology stack. The path planning module consists of a set of libraries and web services designed for the purpose of optimally navigating a vehicle through an area that includes obstacles or avoidance zones. Vehicles can have different steering and collision models and also support different types of implements, e.g. - 3-point implements, fixed implements or drawbar implements. The path planning libraries and services solve multiple navigation problems common in agricultural or construction projects. Start-ups, OEMs and value added resellers can use these libraries and cloud services or embed path planning in computing devices as part of their solution. Once the path has been generated for the machine and implement(s), the control system module can execute this plan in real time by interfacing with standard machine interfaces, such as tractor implement management (TIM) or proprietary OEM interfaces. The control systems module ensures the plan is completed as accurately and as safely as possible. Beyond the fundamental pre-planning capability, the two components can also interact and consume new information in real-time from sensors or other relevant autonomous components that are part of the solution. The system is able to adjust plans on-the-fly and deliver the new plan to the controls module, allowing the system to continue operating efficiently and effectively.

Enabling Safe Operation of Off-Road Autonomous Machines with High-Availability Localization and Situational Awareness [A-1590] Wed., Nov. 9, 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM PST
Localization and perception are two major components of any autonomy-ready offer. These provide the ability for a vehicle to locate itself within the world, and the ability for a vehicle to perceive the world around it in order to make informed and safe decisions. In GNSS-difficult applications, simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) enables precise positioning to provide seamless navigation solutions everywhere. Safe operation of an autonomous vehicle is achieved through reliable perception of the environment. Our obstacle detection and dynamic object tracking system uses a combination of RADARs, LiDARs and cameras to help users avoid collisions. Our perception system also helps users understand the operating environment by segmenting and labeling an observed scene into classes such as traversable terrain, buildings, vehicles, vegetation and more. Our localization and perception technology stack is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Each operating environment requires a unique combination of sensors, algorithms and configurations, as well as customized neural network training. We will highlight several real world examples of working with customers to understand their exact needs for using our perception kits, while standing up dedicated data pipelines, with data privacy and cybersecurity in mind.

From Zero to Autonomous Workflow in 18 Months [A-1593] Wed., Nov. 9, 1:30 PM - 2:00 PM PST 
In this presentation we reveal how Trimble was able to go from idea to level-4 autonomous compaction workflow in under 18 months. We will discuss how existing Trimble technology was leveraged, how new technology was added, and how our focus on the customer workflow guided our development. Using the Virtual Proving Ground (VPG) to Accelerate the Development of Autonomous Solutions [A-1592] Wed., Nov. 9, 1:00 PM - 1:30 PM PST
In this presentation, we will share the way the virtual proving ground (VPG) is being used to expedite the development of several autonomy projects. The presentation will show examples of several custom simulators created with a just-in-time approach to deliver virtual equipment with hardware in the loop to testers, developers and stakeholders. Finally, we will present an overview of the latest and future upgrades of the VPG tools that have enabled the Trimble Autonomy simulation team to deliver and continue to produce high fidelity solutions in record time.
